A meeting was held on March 25, 2011, in Yerevan-Armenia, between the Primate of the Armenian Church Canadian Diocese, His Eminence Bishop Bagrat Galstanian and the Mayor of Yerevan, His Worship Karen Karapetyan. The topics under discussion included issues relating to advancing the development of ties, between Montreal and Yerevan, technical exchanges and training programs.
Primate Galstanian conveyed the sentiments and willingness of Mayor Gerald Tremblay of Montreal, to support and develop mutually beneficial cooperation between Montreal and Yerevan, as agreed upon within the framework of the signed agreement between the two sister cities. Bishop Galstanian reaffirmed his ongoing commitment to this initiative and reiterated that the Armenian Church Diocese of Canada will be actively involved in the process and will provide all ongoing and necessary facilitation through its Office of Governmental Relations.
Mayor Karapetyan welcomed the Primate with high appreciation, and praised the efforts of the Canadian Diocese. Mr. Karapetyan acknowledged the importance of enhancing the cooperation and development between Yerevan and Montreal and all cities where significant relations have already been established.
The honourable mayor of Yerevan also informed the Primate about the creation of a new website initiative called, “Ognir Dbrotsit” (Help Your School) aimed at encouraging Armenians, living in Yerevan or outside, to offer support to their schools. The mayor is assured that this portal will work in a transparent and efficient manner. The Primate welcomed this initiative, adding: “I am a son of this city and will happily contribute towards the needs of my own school.” He also promised to inform, the Canadian Armenian community, about this important initiative.
Matters relating to the proposed Montreal Park in the city of Yerevan were also reviewed. The city of Yerevan will present a project plan to their Canadian counterpart in the near future.
