Last week, His Eminence Archbishop Nathan received Mrs. Hasmig Belleli at the Diocesan office in Outremont.
Mrs. Belleli is a Borough mayor candidate in Ahuntsic-Cartierville. Of Lebanese-Armenian origin, a Canadian citizen since 1967, Hasmig Belleli represented the Ahuntsic district under the banner of Vision Montreal from 1994 to 2005 and 2008 to 2009. During her term, she served on several committees as chair of the Commission du Développement Urbain de Montréal, vice chair of the Commission des Finances of the City of Montreal, Chair of the commission d’urbanisme for the Borough of Ahuntsic – Cartierville. Mrs. Belleli successfully oversaw numerous dossiers, including those of Redpath, the Rialto Theatre, Concordia University, and the convention centre.
Her major achievements in her district are: the opening of the Chabanel viaduct, restoring the heritage wall of Nicolas Viel Park, the redevelopment and rehabilitation of Nicolas Viel Park, de la Merci Park and Marcelin Wilson Park as well as numerous streets and sidewalks.
His Eminence congratulated Mrs. Belleli and wished her success in the upcoming municipal elections. Municipal elections will be held in the city of Montreal on November 3, 2013 as part of the 2013 Quebec municipal elections. Voters will elect 65 positions on the Montreal City Council, including the mayor, borough mayors, and city councillors, as well as 38 borough councillors.
