From February 16 until February 22, the World Council of Churches (WCC) held their Central Committee meeting in Geneva, Switzerland. With the blessings of His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians, the Armenian Church was represented by Archbishop Vicken Aykazian, and Ms. Paula Devejian. Rev. Fr. Sipan Gevorgian from the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, participated in the meeting as a Steward.

During the meeting there was a discussion on the upcoming International Ecumenical Peace Convocation, being held in Jamaica; on the status of the Christians in the Near East; as well as issues on the proposed changes within the WCC. The Central Committee also reflected on the current events in the Middle East.

Rev. Dr Olav Fykse Tveit, General Secretary of the WCC, reflected on the importance of the Jamaica Convocation, which would strengthen the joint efforts of the Churches for the sake of the prevention of violence. He also noted that the Churches should play a significant role in the reinforcement of peace and justice in the Middle East.
