Official Ottawa congratulates Armenia on the 20th Anniversary of Independence

The Governmental Relations Office of the Diocese of the Armenian Church of Canada is honored to have received official congratulatory statements in commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the Independence of Armenia.

The Right Honorable, Stephen Harper, Prime Minister of Canada has extended his greeting and best wishes for the celebration of this historic 20th anniversary of the Independence of Armenia. In his statement, Prime Minister Harper reiterated Canada’s position “to stand for and support a strong and free Armenia,” and continued his message to all Armenians in Canada, with an affirmation “to strengthen the many ties that bind Canada and Armenia.” CLICK HERE for the letter of Prime Minister Harper.

In his letter, the Honorable John Baird, Minister of Foreign Affairs, conveys his well wishes for the anniversary, recalling the historic occasion of the recognition of Armenia at the time of Independence and acknowledges the growing ties between Canada and Armenia, “we have forged bonds of friendship and cooperation based on promoting democratic values and global peace.” Minister Baird in his congratulatory letter affirms the recognition of the strength of the Armenian community in Canada. Mr. Harold Albrecht, Chair of Canada Armenia Parliamentary Friendship Group, recalling his fond memories from his trip to Armenia, has expressed his best wishes and congratulations to the people of Armenia and all Canadian Armenians upon this milestone anniversary citing a celebration of “twenty years of independence, twenty years of democracy and twenty years of progress.” Mr. Albrecht read his statement in the House of Commons earlier today.CLICK HERE to read more.
