8th Annual Holy Trinity Armenian Church Golf Tournament
Although the weatherman predicted rain, the 8th annual HTAC Golf Tournament proceeded with sunshine on September 23rd at the Silver Lakes Golf and Country Club, rated as one of the top courses in Ontario.
As the participants arrived at the bag drop off area, they were received by the staff of the golf club that took their clubs and placed them in their pre-assigned golf carts. The golfers then proceeded to the HTAC reception area where they were greeted by huge banners welcoming them to the tournament, thanking our Gold Sponsor, Selyan’s Flooring and Interiors and our four silver sponsors Mr. & Mrs. Andre and Seza Nazarian, Lexus of Richmond Hill, KRG Insurance Brokers and Realty Executives. Here the participants were welcomed by our volunteers as they registered and received gift bags of appreciation. The practice range was open and the bar-b-que lunch, which was sponsored by Emzone – Empack Spraytech Inc., was served at the patio overlooking the golf course.
At 1:30 sharp, the player’s golf carts were escorted to their designated golf holes and the best-ball tournament was underway. As the golfers moved from hole to hole, they observed the names of our 18 hole sponsors. This year, hole number one was again dedicated to the memory of a very special friend of the HTAC Golf Tournament, Arto Okutan, who was involved with the tournament from day one.
Hole number 11 offered a $25,000 prize for a hole –in-one sponsored by KRG Insurance Brokers. Unfortunately no one was able to achieve this task although I understand a few of the participants came close.
After Divine Liturgy, Fr. Zareh Zargarian, pastor of Holy Trinity Armenian Church joined the tournament and drove his golf cart around to meet the participants and the sponsors. Unfortunately the rain started with about 4-5 more holes remaining in the round. Those of us who were unwilling to brave the rain, headed to the clubhouse. A number of hearty “real golfers” finished their round. All were welcomed back with a shot of Armenian cognac to warm up.
In the clubhouse the participants partook in silent auction, bidding on gifts generously donated, and enjoyed a delicious steak dinner sponsored by Moneysworth & Best. During dinner, prizes were handed out to winning teams and individuals. Der Hayr thanked the Golf Committee and presented tokens of appreciation. All went home after a wonderful day of golf, fun and friendship.
The Golf Committee would like to thank all players, sponsors, donors, Silver Lakes Golf & Country Club and the hard working volunteers who made this day successful. See you all next year.
