Commemorations of the 99th Anniversary of the Armenian Genocide took place in Ottawa on April 24. Representatives from the Armenian communities of Toronto, Montreal, Cambridge and other cities came to the capital to take part in the commemorations.
The event started at the Embassy of Armenia, where flowers were placed at the monument “Armenia Immortal”, and the clergymen, under the guidance of Locum Tenens of the Armenian Church Diocese of Canada His Eminence Archbishop Nathan Hovhannisian read prayers, requiem service, for the repose of the souls of 1.5million victims of the Armenian Genocide.
Commemorations continued in front of the Canadian Parliament, where Members of Parliament and other officials joined the demonstrating Armenians and addressed them with speeches. Ambassador Yeganian also addressed the demonstrators and stressed that Turkey’s ongoing denial of the Armenian Genocide is not acceptable.
