On Saturday, March 14, 2015, Armenian Women’s Day pilgrimage to St. Mary Armenian Apostolic Church of Hamilton was organized by the Women’s Guild Central Council, under the auspices of His Grace Bishop Abgar Hovakimian, Primate of the Armenian Apostolic Church Canadian Diocese.
81 pilgrims from Holy Trinity Armenian Church of Toronto, St. Vartan Armenian Church of Mississauga, St. Gregory the Illuminator Armenian Church of St. Catharines and Women’s Guild members of St. Mary Armenian Church of Hamilton participated in the event.
t 11 am the Lenten Service (Arevakal) commenced followed by healing prayer and requiem service (hokehangist). After luncheon Mrs. Diana Poghosian, the chairperson of Women’s Guild Central Council, welcomed participants and expressed gratitude for taking part in various initiatives of the Central Council.
During the cultural program, prepared by the pilgrims, Very Rev. Fr. Hayrik Hovhannisyan offered a speech on the topic of “The role of the Armenian Woman in the Armenian History”. Hayr Soorp in details presented the role of Armenian women in our history, and her mission today and in future.
