This Sunday, March 10, 2013 Rev. Father Vazgen Boyajyan will celebrate Holy Divine Liturgy in Ottawa, St Mesrob Parish. Deacon Ivan Gyadayan and Maestro Varuzhan Margaryan will assist the pastor.
The fifth Sunday of Great Lent is called the Sunday of the Judge. The parable tells the story of a widow who repeatedly came to a judge, who neither feared God nor respected man, and pled for her rights. For a long period of time the judge refused to act, but in the end, he fulfilled her request, to put an end to her continuous appeals. This parable exhorts us to always and continually pray, as prayer symbolizes the soul’s eternal striving and thirst for God.
This Sunday also coincides with the commemoration of the Massacres in Sumgait, Azerbaijan. Armenians throughout the world remember the victims of Sumgait massacres carried out by Azeri people in 1988. Twenty-five years ago, the seaside town of Sumgait in Azerbaijan, then part of the Soviet Union, became the scene of bloody anti-Armenian riots in which ethnic Armenians were killed.
Following the Liturgy, requiem service will take place in memory of the Armenian victims fallen during the massacre in Sumgait, Azerbaijan.
After the prayer service, a presentation about CYMA, Canadian Youth Mission to Armenia, will be made by two CYMA 2012 participants.
