On the 3rd of April, at the Leacock Building hallway on the ground floor, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, the ACYM, in collaboration with McGill’s, Concordia’s and University of Montreal’s Armenian students’ associations, handed out small pomegranate pins and pamphlets about the Armenian genocide.
Our goal was to raise awareness about the Armenian genocide among students and teachers in order to inform them about our cause and the facts of this issue. Surprisingly, a great number of students already knew about the Armenian genocide because they had friends or relatives who were Armenian or because they had attended a university history class that had informed them about this tragic event. Information was shared with students who did not know of the facts of the Armenian Genocide of 1915.
Considering the fact that there is a classroom of 600 seats, 2 classrooms of 150 seats and 3-4 other smaller classrooms located at a short distance from the hallway where we stood, and that classes were given about 3 times during our presence, it is reasonable to say that about 1000 students passed by the Leacock building’s ground floor hallway from which at least half were offered pins and a short talk by our members.
In total, 300 pins and 90 pamphlets were handed out to students and teachers that passed by.
