D1A medieval church in Armenia’s Aragatsotn province was restored and reopened last year, thanks to the generosity of Dns. Zakar and Varoujan Hachikian, two brothers who are parishioners of Sts. Vartanants Church of Chelmsford, MA, and Hye Pointe Church of Haverhill, MA.

Sourp Asdvadzadzin Church, located in Ashnak village, was consecrated on August 22 by Bishop Mkrtich Proshyan, Primate of the Diocese of Aragatsotn. Dn. Varoujan Hachikian traveled to Armenia to take part in the consecration service.

D2At the conclusion of the service, Bishop Proshyan blessed a new khatchkar dedicated to the martyrs of Amasia in historic Armenia. The khatchkar is a replica of one of the thousands of khachkars destroyed in the Armenian cemetery of Joulfa (Nakhchivan) in the late 1990s.
