C1The parish Council of St. Vartan Armenian Church of Mississauga (Halton-Peel region) had organized the screening of Bared Maronian’s “Orphans of the Genocide” critically acclaimed documentary film. Attendees of this sold-out event were moved by the stories of several groups of orphans representing more than 200,000 Armenian orphans who lost their parents during the genocide of 1915. The documentary presented eyewitness stories supported by images of original Ottoman and non-Ottoman documents corroborating individual events, orders to carry displacements and specific treatment of these orphans brought home the reality of these atrocities which befell these children. C2The documentary has been shown regionally on PBS channels in Fresno, Miami and other areas creating significant favorable reaction from both Armenian and non-Armenian audiences.

Following the showing of the documentary, the audience had the opportunity to hear Bared Maronian who directed and produced this project through his Armenoid productions. Bared described his inspiration that drove him to create and produce this film, the hurdles he encountered when creating it as well as his next project which he hopes to complete by March 2015 on the heels of the centenary of the Genocide. He also took the time to answer several questions from a very engaged and interested audience.

C3Rev. Fr. Myron Sarkissian closed the event with his words of gratitude to Bared for his sacrifice and commitment and his message to the audience to live with a purpose.
