On Saturday, March 14, 2015, a Median day (Mitchink) of the Great Lent celebration was held in St. Gregory the Illuminator Armenian Cathedral of Montreal. This celebration was especially devoted to the women who struggled for their Christian faith through centuries.
Before the reception, an Arevakal service took place in the church under the auspices of His Grace Bishop Abgar Hovakimyan, Primate of the Armenian Apostolic Church Canadian Diocese. The celebrant priest was Rev. Fr. Vazgen Boyajyan, pastor, who explained the meaning of the ceremony.
Following the service, an Armenian traditional Mitchink reception held in “Marie Manoogian” hall of the church, in presence of 150 parishioners. Mrs. Zivart Takvorian, Chairlady of the Church Ladies Auxiliary Committee, expressed her heartfelt gratitude to her colleagues, church members, and all the participants who brought their support to accomplish this wonderful and cherished moment of our life.
During the reception, His Grace Bishop Abgar Hovakimyan made a presentation about the role of woman in the Armenian Church. In his speech, Bishop Abgar highlighted the role of foreign women who dedicated their whole life to Armenian orphans – victims of the Armenian Genocide. Primate mentioned the sacrifice of these missionary women who have become the role – models for others.
All the parishioners were satisfied in a cozy atmosphere. They left to their homes bringing with them the memories of the symbolic day.
