On Thursday, November 22, a new church was consecrated in Vanadzor, Armenia, by  Bishop Sebouh Chuljyan, Primate of the Diocese of Gougark. Government officials and local residents took part in the service.

The small house of worship named “St. Vartan the Warrior Church” stands on the site of a former sanctuary dating to the 7th century. That building was restored in 1857, but was destroyed in the 1988 earthquake.

The construction of St. Vartan Church is part of an ongoing revival of ecclesiastical buildings in the Gougark Diocese. Since 1996, more than 30 churches have been built or renovated in cities and villages across the region.
