On April 9, His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians, received Valeriu Stefan Zgonea, President of the Chamber of Deputies of Romania.
During the meeting His Holiness reflected on the two nation’s genuine friendly relations mentioning that due to the Romanian’s unfathomable faith and true humanitarian spirit, the Armenian community of Romania has been able to maintain their spiritual and culture values in Romania, to significantly contribute in various spheres of Romanian civil society and to live in companionship with the Romanian people. His Holiness emphasized the fact that the Church is also considered the backbone of the two nation’s good relations.
Chamber President Zgonea expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome and highlighted the importance to increase relations between the two nations, remarking that history and culture subsequently unite the two nations. He also stressed the important role that the Church plays in establishing peace in people’s lives.
In attendance at the meeting was His Grace Bishop Yezras Nersissian, Primate of the Armenian Diocese of Russia and New Nakhichevan; His Grace Bishop Datev Hakobyan, Primate of the Romanian Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church; and Mrs. Crina Rodica Prunariu, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Romania to the Republic of Armenia.
