On Thursday, April 3, 2014 important meetings were held with a number of members of parliament, on Parliament Hill in Ottawa.
Dn. Hagop Arslanian, Director of the Governmental Relations Office of the Diocese and Mr. Roupen Kuyoumdjian, Executive Director of ANCC met with the Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister of Canada, MP Paul Calandra and the Foreign Affairs Critic of the Official Opposition MP Paul Dewar. In addition, meetings were held with the Hon. Peter Kent,Pc., Eve Peclet, NDP, Hon. John McCallum, Lib., Hon. Lawrence MacAulay, Lib., Hon. Judy Shri, Lib., Costas Menegakis, PC, and Lois Brown, PC.
Discussions focused on the political initiatives of our community to rightly mark and commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. Further discussions included the review of the current grim circumstances and dire needs of the Kessab Armenian community following atrocities, which resulted in their mass exodus.
