Ever since Canada had its own ACYO chapter we have been holding our own ACYOC sports weekend. However this year for the first time in 25 years Toronto’s ACYOC participated in the U.S. ACYOA Sports Weekend.
This year’s ACYOA sports weekend was held in Philadelphia. On May 28th Toronto Armenian youth gathered at Holy Trinity to pray and prepare for departure. In Philadelphia we participated in sports such as basketball, ping pong, and tavla. We also had a chance to experience the immense Armenian community in the U.S.
The weekend was jam packed with very fun nights where social gatherings, parties, and galas were organized to bring all the youth from different cities together. Youth from Toronto took this opportunity to bond and mingle with Armenians from all different cities in the U.S.
The trip overall was extremely enjoyable which was obvious from the opinions of all people who attended. As a committee we gained a lot of experience with regards to organizing a large scale event such as Sports Weekend. We hope next year ACYOA would consider coming to our sports weekend.
