At Holy Etchmiadzin on Thursday, January 17, His Holiness Karekin II, the Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians, met with Georgian Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili. His Holiness expressed his hope that Mr. Ivanishvili’s visit will help enhance the diplomatic ties between Armenia and Georgia.
On this occasion, the Catholicos also stressed the importance of restoring and preserving Armenian holy sites in Georgia, and the return of the ownership of several Armenian churches located in Georgia to the Armenian Diocese in Georgia. In addition, he took this opportunity to press the Georgian government to release the imprisoned activist Vahagn Chakhalyan and to permit Armenian schools in Georgia to teach Armenian history.
