The General Assembly of St. James Armenian Orthodox Church has elected, Archbishop Nourhan Manoogian as Patriarch of Jerusalem. The Brotherhood elected Archbishop Nourhan Manoogian as the 97th Armenian Orthodox Patriarch of Jerusalem, one of the five custodians of Christian religious sites in the Holy Land.
Following the election of His Beatitude Archbishop Nourhan Manoogian, a prayer service was held at St. James Cathedral in Jerusalem where the newly elected Patriarch conveyed his message, thanked the members of the Brotherhood for their confidence in him and asked the Almighty God to grant him wisdom and courage to lead the flock in His service.
On this occasion Primate Bishop Bagrat Galstanian personally congratulated the newly elected Patriarch, on behalf of Dioceses of the Armenian Church of Canada, the Diocesan Council, the clergy and the faithful of the Canadian Armenian community.
The patriarchal throne has remained vacant following the long illness of His Beatitude, Archbishop Torkom Manoogian who entered his eternal rest in October 2012 at the age of 93.
