Building on the Bishops Synod of last fall, the Armenian Church’s liturgical and canonization committees held meetings last month, with the blessings of His Holiness Karekin II, the Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians, and His Holiness Aram I, Catholicos of the Great House of Cilicia. The gatherings convened at the Catholicate of Cilicia in Antelias, Lebanon.
The liturgical committee reviewed the decisions made last September during the Bishops Synod held at Holy Etchmiadzin, and continued discussions on developing a uniform text for the sacrament of holy baptism.
The canonization committee discussed the formal process of recognizing as saints the Armenian martyrs of 1915. They spoke about liturgical commemorations, hymns, and the preparation of relics and icons. The committee hopes to finalize its work in time for the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide next year.
