The Nativity and Theophany of Our Lord Jesus Christ was celebrated at St. Vartan Armenian Church of Mississauga on January 5 and 6, 2013. Rev. Fr. Myron Sarkissian celebrated the Divine Liturgy accompanied by four deacons and 9 altar servers.
Der Myron specified the characters of the people that were mentioned during the Christmas history in the Gospels. “The Nativity is the hope and the light for all of us who are in trouble and darkness. . . Nothing is changed from that time when we see governors can do anything to save their positions and ignore the truth of God’s wisdom and eternity; they are ready to destroy lives of innocent children. . . We should learn from the wise men to learn about God before start arguing or refusing. Before you start accusing the church, first read the Holy Bible and learn about the Armenian Church. . . The shepherds walked all the way to Jerusalem to meet the hope and the light of the world, are we walking the short
distance to meet the hope and the light of the world at the churches? There are only two commandments related to the exact relationship of God and men; You shall not have other gods and the Lord blessed the seventh day and made it holy (it is God’s day). . . are we like the shepherds to walk to the light and hope . . . Jesus Christ was born in a manger, something that you less think about it, today before you think how to look or how to celebrate, prepare your manger where Jesus can find his place to be born. Before we arrive to the Light and Hope of God; new born Christ, take that steps and you will find the Light and Hope of God in your lives”.
Mr. Bedros Garabetian and his son Garbis served as godfather for the CHERORHNEK, or Blessing of Water Ceremony, which marks the baptism of Jesus by the hand of John the Baptist. Mr. Bedros Garabetian is a parish council member and been long years supporter of St. Vartan parish.
On January 4, 2013 a group of “Helping Hands” committee members visited a number of people from the Armenian community. They were: Yeretzgin Narine Sarkisssian, Irma Davidkhanian, Sana Davoud Vannes, Ashkhen Sahakian and Ani Kerametlian.
Their intent was to meet with them in their own surrounding, sing together traditional Christmas Carrols and wish them a very Merry Christmas.“With each encounter we were greeted with welcoming affection. With each departure, each one of us experienced a feeling of peace and tranquility (A. Kerametlian)”.
