Last week, His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians was elected as one of the eight presidents of World Council of Churches (WCC) during the 10th Assembly held in Busan, South Korea. In this capacity, His Holiness will represent the entire Oriental Orthodox family of churches.
During the Assembly’s opening ceremony on October 30, His Holiness delivered a message of blessing. Leaders of roughly 360 churches, representing some 150 countries, along with high-ranking government and diplomatic officials, took part in the conference.
The Armenian Church is an active member of WCC since 1962.
